Before modern air conditioning, staying cool during July and August was a constant challenge. Farmers and families would drop whole watermelons into cold well water, creeks, or iceboxes to chill them. Cutting into a freezing-cold watermelon became the ultimate reward after a long day of hot summer labor, the centerpiece of every 4th of July table. There is a genuine coolness to watermelon that goes beyond temperature. Its natural hydration brings a refreshing quality that you feel before you even think about it.
Here is what makes our Watermelon Bud quietly remarkable: watermelon is almost entirely water. Hard candy contains almost none. Capturing the true character of a fruit defined by its water content in a candy that has virtually zero - that is one of the most difficult things a candy maker can attempt. We spent a long time getting this right.

I had my first Peach Buds about 14 years ago! A local restaurant was selling them and I've been hooked ever since. Having been raised near the Sandhills of N.C., I was no stranger to some of THE best peaches around. When I tasted this candy it was like being transported back to summertime peach season in the Sandhills!
I had never heard of Butterfields before, until an ad popped up in my social media feed recently. I'm such a candy person so of course I'm gonna give it a try! The Peach buds are very very good. I have them in a dish at my house and several other people really love them too! I bought key lime also, but haven't opened that bag yet. Can't wait to try those too.
Delicious old fashioned candy. Like how the peach flavor lingers after it's gone. Just the right subtle hint of peach, not too sweet and very fruity.
Loved these. Nice size. If I ate something spicy and there was an aftertaste, these were perfect to get rid of the taste. Very good and not overpowering. Will order more!

I bought 2 bags of peach bud and a bag of watermelon bud. I took one of the peach bags to work and all my co-workers LOVE them! I'm so glad I ordered 2 of the peach they are delicious!! The watermelon is really good too!
